A groundbreaking idea: carpets in the kitchen and diner!

We can almost imagine the moment you’re reading the title of our latest article: “Carpets in the kitchen? Are you sure it’s a good idea?” A lot of people must react the same way when hearing about the thriving trend of kitchen rugs for the first time. Still, at Kitchen Show 2020 we’d like to prove to you that putting carpets down in the kitchen isn’t merely a good idea: it is a fantastic idea! Read about one of the most beautiful ways you can make your kitchen bloom: enter the world of kitchen carpets!

At first it might seem that laying a carpet in your kitchen serves a simple aesthetic purpose, but there are a number of practical advantages of having a nice piece of fabric on the floor of your kitchen. One of the most important aspects is the fact that kitchens can shield the floor from water spills and stains, especially when the rug is placed in front of important work areas. Also, whenever you drop a plate or glass - we won’t judge! - you increase the survival chances of said items if they have a chance to land on the carpet. This is another proof that the placement of the rug is crucial, but more on that later. One of the more intriguing aspects of kitchen carpets is the comfort they introduce to your kitchen work. Think about it: isn’t it a lovely image to go through your daily tasks while standing on an amazingly soft surface? With the help of a carpet, the kitchen will transform into an inviting, homely environment in no time.

The visual effect a carpet has on the kitchen is a force to be reckoned with. Especially since other aesthetic elements of your kitchen, such as the walls, backsplash and cabinet fronts are quite difficult to change, as opposed to easy-to-apply rugs. It’s worth thinking of introducing any missing stylistic and decorational element from your kitchen in the form of a beautiful carpet. The style of the carpet itself is dependent on the size and color scheme of the interior, as well as your personal taste. A bright fabric can truly lighten up a darker kitchen, while a more neutral rug with earthy colors can camouflage superficial stains and dust. If you have one of those stylish all-white kitchens, a vibrant, bold colored carpet will make an impact no one can miss when they step into your kitchen. Green, on the other hand, as well as blue radiate a sort of playful charm that even your kids will fall in love with!

Whether your kitchen carpet’s main function is to serve practical or aesthetic purposes, it’s material must be chosen with care, as the kitchen is one of the busiest areas in your home. Interior designers are usually keen on synthetic fabric for its resistance to staining and wear. Felt is one of the most underrated materials: they are great at resisting stains such as food morsels and dust, they’re water- and fire-resistant and are extremely easy to clean with a few swipes or using the vacuum.

Wool carpets, on the other hand, introduce that cozy warmth atmosphere in the kitchen with their natural quality. Their unrivalled softness will bring comfort to your kitchen work at the countertop, sink or kitchen island. Also, because wool is an exceptionally durable material, a wool rug will be your companion for several years. Traditional Oriental rugs are always fashionable. ‘Bokhara’ rugs radiate peace and inspiration with their deep red color and strong, symmetric patterns.

By now you should have an idea regarding the proper placement of your kitchen rug. As we mentioned before, placing a neutral carpet in front of the busiest work areas is a good idea to hide occasional water spills and staining. These include the sink and even the refrigerator. If you have a kitchen island at home, placing a runner between the island and the cabinets is an extremely stylish solution that reaches all the important work areas in the kitchen. A carpet can also be a great force of spatial direction: place a vibrant colored carpet between your open-concept kitchen and the living room, and see how it directs your gaze and almost literally “shows the way” in your home. And if you have the appropriate space for it, be bold and cover the entirety of your kitchen floor with one extra large carpet! With the appropriate colors you can change and reshape the atmosphere of your kitchen - and your home - entirely.

Having a carpet in your kitchen doesn’t sound that odd anymore, does it? If we managed to spark interest in kitchen rugs, make sure to come to this year’s exhibition where carpet designers of SZETT Rug Art will introduce you to their most precious work, as well as the world of carpet design and manufacture. Groundbreaking design ideas such as this will be plenty at the exhibition between February 28 and March 1, 2020, all in the spirit of making you see your home and kitchen in a new light. Our aim at the 11th Kitchen Show will be, as ever before, to provide endless inspiration to the re-imagination of your home. Come to the Budapest Arena for an unforgettable weekend!
